Z.v........ 20 Chamaedorea cataractarum seeds, Cascade Cat palm, Cat palm, Fresh Jan. 2021
Chamaedorea cataractarum is the Latin name for the palm commonly known as a cascade palm, Cataract palm, Cat palm, Cascading Cat palm, and probably others.
These 20 seeds have been cleaned of their fleshy fruit and are ready for germination. Seed quantity in pic just for display.
This is a clustering palm and one of the rare rheophytes in the palm family which means it naturally grows in areas often covered by standing or flowing water. A Cat palm is similar in looks to an areca palm, except the leaf stems (petioles) are green, whereas the areca's are golden yellow. This smaller palm works in places where the areca would be too large. The Cat palm foliage is much darker than arecas particularly when grown in shaded areas which it prefers.
This palm can be grown in zones 9b or warmer and also makes an excellent indoor potted plant. Indoor keep an eye out for spider mites and treat as necessary.
